As of today, it’s been exactly 150 days since we first became engaged. Lot’s of things to do while planning a wedding. One huge part is choosing all the vendors you wish to have at the wedding.

Until becoming engaged, I had never realized how many different companies in all shapes and sizes were out there. For example you have: wedding planners, venues, caters, photographers, videographers, event rentals (tables, chairs, linens, silverware, etc.), lights, music, photo booths, desserts, wedding apparel (suits/dresses etc.), desserts and more. Each one of these play a significant role in your special day, and it’s important to get it right!

Choosing the right wedding planner

Inbar and I both thought it was important to choose a great wedding planner. If you imagined a wedding sort of like a sporting event, the wedding planner would be the coach. A wedding planner typically has years of experience, and generally have played and understand the game. Some coaches win a lot of games, and others not so much. Not to say there isn’t always hope, we wanted to make sure the cards were at least stacked in our favor to win. So we asked around with family and friends, as well as searched  popular wedding sites like the knot, zankyouyelp, and google for local wedding planners. Luckily we came across Jane with Jane Alexandra Events, which was a referral from Paige. After reviewing over our options we chose Jane Alexandra Events, which we felt was the best option. After seeing how hard she worked at Paige & Kyle’s wedding we confident she would do a great job.

Having a wedding planner is also very helpful because they will help guide you along the process of what you need to focus on and when. Remember they’ve done this like a million times, so they’ve generally have a good gauge on how long things will take. For example, did you know it could take up to 6-7 months for wedding dress alteration? I sure as heck didn’t!

Choosing a wedding date and venue

From day one we both had our heart set on July 7th, 2017, which has held an important significant to us both and it would also be a year from the day I proposed to her and she said ‘yes!’. I think we got lucky, because choosing a date can take some time. Our wedding venue was also a breeze, which we talked about in another article called ‘Booking Our Wedding Venue‘. If we had to give any advice to our friends on these ones is get this part done early with the help of a wedding planner if possible.

Choosing the right cater

So far we are currently in the process on deciding on which cater to choose. We have looked at several options so far. The biggest difference we’ve noticed is the quality of the food and that some cater’s also provide (some) wedding rentals. Most caters do not offer all the services that a wedding rental company can provide as far as the types and styles of tables, chairs, silverware, glasses, etc. However you can always supplement whatever the cater doesn’t offer with a separate rental company, but it’s best to check if your cater is willing to work with the rental company you choose (if any). We are getting really close to choosing a cater soon, so check back soon for our update on that!

Sincerely,

The Groom
